PEMS Testing

Portable Emissions Sampling

What is PEMS Testing?

A Portable Emissions Measurement Sampling (PEMS) is used to test vehicle emissions while driving, as compared to on the rollers of a dynamometer. This is to ultimately analyze the emissions from real-world driving, incorporating all of the factors (traffic, gradient, weather, etc.) that would otherwise be difficult to simulate in a laboratory.

ATDS offers PEMS testing to measure on-road emissions for several applications such as R&D, regulatory preparation, and benchmarking purposes.

PEMS Testing with ATDS

Test Your Emissions

PEMS testing does not have to be difficult. ATDS is well-equipped with a full emissions test laboratory for in-house testing as well as on-road testing. With our setup, you will be readily available to understand your results both in-lab and on-road.

Full-Cycle Service

We understand the complexity of the emissions testing industry and will guide you throughout the entire process. Simply tell us your project guidelines and we'll handle the rest, from project setup and driving the vehicle and delivering the data.

Test Anywhere

Our convenient location in the greater Los Angeles, California area allows for a wide-variety of driving conditions. In addition, we are also available to test in a multitude of locations throughout the United States as well as globally.

Common Test Applications

  • Benchmarking – Vehicles, fuel, etc.
  • Implementation – A to B testing, such as modifications and additives
  • Regulatory – Pre-approval design and validation and post-type-approval in-use surveillance and testing for Real Driving Emissions (RDE), and Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP)
  • Non-regulatory – Custom drive-cycle real-world testing for R&D data collection

What we measure

  • Carbon monoxide (CO)/Carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • Nitric oxide (NO)/Nitrogen dioxide (NO2)
  • Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx = NO + NO2)
  • Fuel economy (MPG)
